Dr. Carlos Santo on The Stress-Hormone Connection
Stress is an inevitable fact of each and every one of our lives. And while we’re not always in control of our life’s circumstances, we do have a say in how stress affects our lives. For some stress is a motivator that gets us going each day in welcoming anticipation for the challenge ahead, while for others it is a trigger that sets us into a whirlwind of hormonal responses that can shake the very foundation of our core being.
Cortisol is the key stress hormone that lies at the center of the mind-body connection. Few people are aware of the link between this chemical and the crucial balance of our reproductive hormones.
Possible signs of cortisol-induced hormone imbalance may include but are not limited to:
- Menstrual cycle irregularities (including spotting and shortened, extended or missed cycles)
- Painful periods
- Cyclical migraines
- Lack of sexual desire
- Difficulty reaching orgasm
- Erectile dysfunction
- Thyroid-like symptoms despite normal thyroid tests
- Increased susceptibility to contagious infections
- Bone loss
- Brittle, dry, or fragile hair, skin, and nails
- Mood extremes from anxiety to depression
- Sleep disorders
Come learn how the proper and thorough evaluation and treatment of cortisol-related hormone disorders may make a difference in your life.
